Our Story
Hello and welcome to Dachshund Haven of Ky! My name is Kimberly Cress and I am married to Ernest Spencer. Together we have been raising dachshunds since 2012. I had my first dachshund when my husband and I were dating. It was a male dachshund named Black Jack. He wasn’t really sure about Ernest. He tried to get between us on the couch and always fought for all my attention. He finally warmed up to him though. He was my watch dog and he took care of me. He was going to make sure Ern was a good guy. At that point and time, I fell in love with the breed. If you ever get one you will understand how loving and loyal they are.
They are different from any other breed I have ever been in contact with. I love them so much, I can’t imagine my life without them. People ask me how I don’t get attached to the puppies. It isn’t that I don’t get attached, I just love seeing other people getting a dachshund and having many years of joy. I love sharing the dachshund experience with everyone I come in contact with. People get tired of me talking about my dachshunds. I act like they are my children, always talking about them and what they did, and showing off their pictures. Check out our Dames and Sires. We have some gorgeous dachshunds. I went to several states to get my babies. When I found one, I liked, I put a deposit on it and if it was too far away, I booked a flight and went to pick him or her up. It didn’t matter how far away it was. I wanted the perfect dachshund.
All of our dogs are AKC with the exception of one and She is CKC. Our dachshunds have been embark tested to ensure our adults are healthy and have no genetic issues. We use Purina Pro Plan and Purina One puppy food for our babies. We raise our puppies inside our home. They are hand raised with lots of love and we spend a lot of time with them so that they are very well socialized. They are exposed to other adults, cats, other dogs, and children. We are located in Eubank, Ky on a small 14-acre farm. Our back yard is completely fenced in for our adult dachshunds to have plenty of exercise and play time. Our adults are in a kennel with heat and air and they have a doggy door to get outside and play. They are also let out into a bigger fenced in lot to have more room to run and frolic. When mom is close to having her puppies, she goes to our nursery kennel. She stays there for privacy for the puppies to be born until they are about 3-4 weeks old at which time they come into our home to be socialized and exposed to other animals and people and household noises, such as the vacuum cleaner, tv, etc. We do not let our puppies outside on the ground until they are fully vaccinated due to diseases such as parvo. Our puppies come pre-spoiled.
We have creams, dapples, piebalds, dapple pies, black and tan, black and cream, chocolate and tan, chocolate and cream, and shaded creams. We only breed miniature long hair dachshunds. If you live close, you are welcome to come and look at our puppies to help decide which one you want to take home. You may decide to take two, you never know. Please text me with a day and time for a visit. My number is 606-271-7658. Our vet is Courtney Brockman at Casey County Veterinarian Services in Liberty Ky. She does our vet checks and our vaccines. Our puppies are wormed every two weeks from birth.
